Literature in the Community

Through the following activities and initiatives, we aim to improve the opportunities for individuals and communities throughout Wales to participate in literature.

We work directly with partner organisations, Local Authorities, community groups, support services, writers, artists and practitioners to create tailor-made programmes and activities to respond to local needs.

Llên Pawb | Lit Reach

Lit Reach is a community project which offers creative and artistic opportunities through literature for some of the most disadvantaged and vulnerable individuals in our communities.

Literature for Well-being Funding Scheme 2018

Writer-led creative writing activities which aim to provide individuals and communities the opportunity to tell their story and write their own futures.

Weird and Wonderful Wales

In autumn 2017, leading Welsh artist Pete Fowler and 30 guest writers including Patrick Jones, Emily Blewitt and Aneirin Karadog headed off on tour to explore some of Wales’ weirdest stories, with a little help from Mabinogion expert Professor Sioned Davies.

Reading Friends

Reading Friends is a befriending project managed in Wales by Literature Wales in collaboration with national partner The Reading Agency.

Individual and Tailor Made Projects

Literature Wales collaborates with writers and partners to run a variety of one-off projects in the community.

Literature for Health and Wellbeing

A Literature for Health and Wellbeing project in Gwynedd which is partly funded by Cyngor Gwynedd.

Young People's Laureate Wales

The Young People’s Laureate initiative aims to inspire self-expression and increase literacy and communication skills in young people. The current Laureate is Sophie McKeand.

Through workshops, performances and activities, the Bardd Plant Cymru project introduces literature to children in an energetic, dynamic and exciting. Bardd Plant Cymru is Casia Wiliam.

The Inspiring Communities Fund funding scheme offers support of up to 50% towards writers’ fees of appropriate literature events. Find out more here.

Roald Dahl 100 Wales

To celebrate Roald Dahl 100 Wales, Literature Wales offered financial support for events and activity organised to celebrate Roald Dahl 100 in Wales as well as a Wales-wide outreach programme delivered alongside a number of partners.

SWLDI

Literature Wales’ flagship outreach project from 2007 – 2017, SWLDI offered creative activities to groups and individuals who may not have had the opportunity to participate with mainstream arts and culture. our Lit Reach project is a development of SWLDI.
