Biography

Sarah Persson is a writer, educator and radio host living in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Writer
Sarah Persson’s poetry has been published in Poetry Wales, New Welsh Review, Mslexia magazine and Nation Cymru; she has performed her work internationally and was shortlisted for the 2025 Borzello Poetry prize. Her work often explores the female experience shaped by her love of folklore, observation and the landscapes of both Wales and Sweden.

Sarah has an M.A. in Creative Writing from Swansea University and is currently working as the writer in residence on a mixed arts project called ‘Conversations with Ancient Landscapes’, which will be exhibited in the Turner House Gallery in May/June 2026.

As a novelist, Sarah has written a Scandi middle-grade novel called ‘The Flaxen Child’, which is a dark, magical adventure set in the Swedish forest. She is currently seeking representation for this.

Educator
Sarah has been an English teacher for more than 15 years and loves nothing more than running her creative writing groups, poetry competitions and annual poetry picnic. Sarah’s specialism in education is creative writing; she is passionate about the importance of young people seeing themselves as authors and having the opportunity to develop their talent, learn about the industry and go on to establish their own creative communities. Sarah is also an experienced workshop facilitator for adults.

Radio Host
In 2024, Sarah started a radio show for writers called First Draft. Her aim was (and still is) to demystify the world of writing by interviewing authors and publishers. She has been lucky to interview a whole range of people who have generously shared their expertise on topics ranging from short stories, poetry, submitting to journals and many top tips on the writing process. First Draft airs on the last Thursday of the month, at 7pm on Bro Radio.

Events
Sarah was a founder of an arts festival in Llantwit Major which has left a great artistic legacy. She now hosts a cosy and relaxed Poetry & Pints Night on the second Sunday of the month in the Old Swan in Llantwit Major from 6pm.
