Biography

Nia Williams is a freelance writer and musician, originally from Cardiff and now based in Oxford. She’s the author of eight novels, most recently Vera Venti, published in 2021. Other titles include The Pierglass (Honno Modern Fiction, 2001); Persons Living or Dead (Honno Modern Fiction, 2005); The Colour of Grass (Seren Books, 2011); Birdcage (Gurning Gnome, 2013), Hidden Gems (Gurning Gnome, 2014), Breakage (Gurning Gnome, 2017) and Touched (Gurning Gnome, 2021). Her short stories have been published in magazines and anthologies, broadcast on BBC Radio 4 and Radio Wales, and translated into Czech and French. Nia’s theatre company Three Chairs and a Hat has performed her stage musicals in theatres around the UK and at the Edinburgh and Camden Fringe Festivals, and her award-winning animated musicals feature on international streaming platform Scenesaver. She also works as an accompanist and musical director, and leads music and storytelling workshops. Nia is an Associate Artist for English National Ballet and one of the founding members of workshop group MuMo Creative, and has worked for Scottish Ballet, National Dance Wales, English Touring Opera and the Royal Academy of Music, along with many other theatre and music organisations.
