Biography

Nicky Hetherington is a poet and writer living near Newtown in Mid Wales. She has a fun children's first chapter book "Jack and the Dog Boy" published by Beul Aithris, and a poetry pamphlet called "Cultivating Caterpillars".She was awarded 2nd prize in Writing Magazine's Haiku Competition 2017, and Won the Oriel Davies Writing Competition (Poetry) in the same year. This year she was awarded 2nd place in the Caterpillar Prize for Poetry. Nicky's poetry explores thenes of nature and climate change, social issues and injuries and the intersection between tgese. She also has a quirky sense of bumour which she deploys to good effect, both in her Poetry and children's books. Nicky is available for workshops, commissions, residencies and collaborations. If you have an idea, she is open to discuss it with you. A former primary teacher, Nicky is also happy to do school or nursery visits and will work with teachers to structure poetry or prose sessions around their curriculum or topic needs or interests.
