Biography

Helen writes funny and fantastical tales for children and young adults. She is fuelled by a love of all things super-powered, feminism, and chocolate raisins.
Helen spent a decade as a theatre stage manager, walking and talking very quietly backstage in theatres around the country. Her time working at Shakespeare’s Globe and other beautiful theatres, like Bristol Old Vic, cemented her love of theatre and allowed her to travel around the world looking for stories. After squeezing her writing into days off and train journeys, Helen left the touring life to do a Masters in Writing for Young People and learnt from brilliant writers including Lucy Christopher, CJ Skuse, Jo Nadin and Steve Voake.
Helen didn’t see herself, or her hair, in the books she read growing up, and loves writing stories with diverse casts of characters. Her aim is for everyone to be able to see themselves in her novels… with superpowers…
When she’s not writing, you can find Helen hiking around the Welsh countryside.
She is represented by Christabel McKinley at David Higham Associates.
