Biography

Monica Kendall was born in north London and moved to Gwynedd in 2018. In the 1970s she gained a Master’s degree at Oxford University in Arabic and went into publishing. After a second Master’s degree at University College London in Medieval Studies she focused on editing academic books, latterly for Oxford University Press. There were also periods as an actress and as a Hansard reporter in the House of Lords. Her article on her ancestor Rev. Evan Jenkins is in the Dictionary of Welsh Biography. Her publications include an edition of John Webster’s The Duchess of Malfi (2004); Miss Cavell Was Shot: The Diaries of Amy Hodson, 1914–1920 (2015); and Lies and the Brontës: The Quest for the Jenkins Family (2021). Her fourth book is an edition of William Bingley’s 1804 guidebook: North Wales: Intended as a Guide to Future Tourists (March 2023). https://monicakendall.com
