Biography

Rebecca Thomas is an author and historian who lives in Cardiff. Her debut novel for adults, a dystopian campus novel called Y Tŵr was published by Sebra in 2025. She has also published two historical novels for young adults: Dan Gysgod y Frenhines (Gwasg Carreg Gwalch, 2022); Y Castell ar y Dŵr (Gwasg Carreg Gwalch, 2023). In 2022-3, she was appointed Writer in Residence for Bannau Brycheiniog National Park to work on a creative project responding to the climate and nature emergencies. This resulted in two Middle Grade fantasy novels: Anturiaethau’r Brenin Arthur (Gwasg Carreg Gwalch, 2024); Anturiaethau’r Afanc (Gwasg Carreg Gwalch, 2025). Her first literary essay ‘Cribo’r Dragon’s Back’ won the inaugural O’r Pedwar Gwynt essay prize (2021) and she has subsequently published further essays in O’r Pedwar Gwynt and in edited collections such as Hi/Hon (Gwasg Honno, 2024). She studied history at Cambridge University, before gaining a doctorate in medieval studies there. Currently she works as a Senior Lecturer in Medieval History at Cardiff University. Her monograph on medieval identity History and Identity in Early Medieval Wales was published by Boydell & Brewer in 2022 and she has published widely on different aspects of medieval Wales.
