Biography

Karen is a novelist, poet and playwright based on Anglesey. She has a PhD in Creative Writing from Bangor University and is a Pushcart Prize nominee. Her latest novel, Luca, is a mystery with elements of folk horror. A fourth novel, Vivo, written as part of her PhD thesis and due to be published by Bridge House in 2026, examines anthropocentrism with a protagonist who is more than human. Karen has extensive experience of teaching both English and Creative Writing at many levels, in community groups, schools, colleges, and at university. She currently works as a freelance editor, proofreader, tutor and mentor, and as External Examiner for OCA’s Creative Writing B.A. programme. Her poems have appeared in various magazines and anthologies, and her collection, One Word At A Time, was published in 2017. Her short plays have been performed in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia and Malaysia, and have won several awards at festivals. She has also written an award-winning short film, The Afterplanner, directed by Ben Mole.
