Biography

I am a Lecturer in Creative Writing at Aberystwyth University. I write fiction and non-fiction, and I teach a range of modules from fantasy fiction to examining the hero’s journey structure in stories. My work primarily involves the history of medicine and the links between creativity and wellbeing. My debut book, Night Terrors, will be published by Icon Books in Autumn 2022 and explores cultural representations of sleep disorders. I’m currently working on a second book which investigates how we imagine and understand the inside of the human body. I have given presentations for both academic and public audiences; in March 2020, I gave a talk at Wellcome Collection in London on my research into Renaissance anatomical illustrations. I have also given numerous writing workshops in public and in schools, on themes such as science fiction, writing for children and, most recently, ‘Writing the Night’ at Aberystwyth’s Hospice At Home centre in Plas Antaron.
