Biography

Helen Docherty is a children’s author based in Swansea. Her picture books have been translated into 27 languages and shortlisted for various national awards. The Snatchabook won the Oldham Brilliant Book Award and The Knight Who Wouldn’t Fight won the Bae Baglan Award, both voted for by school children. Helen often collaborates with her husband, the illustrator and author Thomas Docherty. The Screen Thief is their latest book together. She has also had her work illustrated by David Roberts, Ali Pye and Erica Salcedo.

Together with Thomas Docherty, Helen has worked with groups of young parents and school children in Swansea to create four original story books to help promote Best Start values. She has also delivered ‘Book in a Day’ sessions through the Lead Creative Schools scheme and Storyopolis, the keynote speech for a conference on Reading, training for Early Years practitioners and creative writing workshops for adults.
