Biography

Stevie Davies, who comes from Swansea, is Emeritus Professor of Creative Writing at Swansea University. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and a Fellow of the Welsh Academy. Stevie has published 28 books in the fields of fiction, literary criticism, biography and popular history. A collection of her short stories, Arrest Me, For I Have Run Away, was published by Parthian in 2018 and short-listed for the Wales Book of the Year Prize in 2019. The Element of Water (2001) has been reprinted in 2019 in the Library of Wales series: it was long-listed for the Booker and Orange Prizes and won the Arts Council of Wales Book of the Year Award in 2002. Several of Stevie’s novels have been adapted into radio and screen plays. She writes for the Guardian newspaper, and is a passionate sea-swimmer, cyclist and walker on the Gower.
