Biography

Originally from the Rhymney Valley, author Carys Haf Glyn is now based in Abergavenny, where she lives with her family at the foot of the Blorenge mountain. She is a primary school teacher who is passionate about igniting children’s love of books. In 2017 she received a Literature Wales Scholarship in order to develop her Middle Grade novel The Fabulous League of Silver Spies: Operation What-a-Whiff. In 2019 she won a place on the Tŷ Newydd course ‘Writing for Children’. It was here that she first met the illustrator and artist Ruth Jên and an idea for a new children’s book was born. Criw’r Coed a’r Gwenyn Coll was published by Y Lolfa in October 2020. It is a book which aims to develop children’s awareness of the natural world. At its heart is an attempt to empower children to engage with nature and have a positive impact on the environment in which they are living. Since publication of the book Carys has been invited to share her work at both The Abergavenny Writing Festival and The Garth Olwg Literature Festival. Criw’r Coed a’r Gwenyn Coll is her first book.
