To coincide with the launch of the Llên Pawb project, Literature Wales is keen to provide writers with the opportunity to develop their skills and confidence in leading community based projects, thus widening the range of writers and practitioners we work with to deliver our projects.

To this end, on Sunday 4th of February, a group of poets, writers and literary practitioners from across North and mid Wales, attended a training day at Tŷ Newydd Writing Centre to develop skills of facilitating for health and well-being in the community.

The morning session was a Safeguarding Awareness Training delivered by Gwenan Griffiths and an afternoon workshop was led by poetry therapist Jill Teague.

Thank you for the opportunity to spend the day at Tŷ Newydd, discussing writing for wellbeing. It was such a worthwhile training day with very interesting and appropriate inputs from both Jill and Gwenan. The morning session was a practical and helpful presentation about Safeguarding within Care and Wellbeing – essential training communicated clearly. Then in the afternoon, we got the chance to discuss how it is possible to use literature to open the mind and express opinions, worries and feelings in a constructive and comfortable manner. Thank you to both who lead the day, to Gwenan Gruffudd for her no-fuss, thorough method and to Jill Teague for inspiring us creatively.

I’d like to thank you for the chance to attend this valuable course. For someone who is self-employed and doesn’t often get the chance for guidance on matters such as security and safeguarding, it was very worthwhile. I enjoyed the contrast between the morning session and the afternoon workshop with Jill Teague, where we had the chance to learn techniques and practices which will be very useful in our ‘took kits’ as literature workshop leaders. Mostly I’m thankful for the opportunity to meet with inspirational practitioners from a variety of backgrounds and experiences in such a comfortable and welcoming environment. I truly enjoyed myself.
