Llên mewn Lle | Lit in Place

Llên mewn Lle | Lit in Place is Literature Wales’ flagship project which explores the climate and nature emergency through literature, run in partnership with WWF Cymru. The project has gone from strength to strength since 2023 and offers funding to writers to devise, establish and deliver activities within their local community.

In 2026-2027, the project will shift its focus onto the ecological and cultural life of rivers. Three writer residencies will take place across three of Wales’ rivers. The rivers are the Cleddau, the Dee and the Taff. The residencies will run from March to December 2026, and will each explore the deep interconnections between land and water, humans and the more-than-human, memory and future.

Rhian Brewster, Head of Communications, WWF Cymru said:

“At WWF Cymru we are excited to be partnering with Literature Wales once again. Our work over the past three years has resulted in some truly meaningful, inspiring and creative engagement between communities and the natural world they live in. Evolving Lit in Place into this new year-long artist in residence programme will enable more people to explore the relationship between nature and creativity, focussing on something that affects us all, the quality of the water in our rivers. Storytelling is powerful, and we are looking forward to hearing what inspiring stories emerge from the voices of the Cleddau, the Taf and the Dee rivers.”

The three resident writers will be Natasha Borton, Hywel Griffiths and Nasia Sarwar-Skuse. During their residencies, the writers will act as creative reporters, documenting the realities of river pollution whilst also championing the work of local groups working to restore the river’s health.

Each residency will culminate in a piece of original creative work which blends community voice, ecological insight, and the writer’s own creative practice. In their own unique way, each residency will convey a collective, imaginative vision for the future of the river and area, highlighting the vital role of storytelling and creativity in addressing climate breakdown.

We will be posting updates about the residencies throughout the year so follow the #LitinPlace #LlênMewnLle project on Instagram to keep up to date with any events and activities that will be taking place.
