Gower-based writer, Jane Fraser, will be joining Griffin Books on Thursday 18 February to talk about her debut novel, Advent – a story of female empowerment, determination and desire in early twentieth century Wales. Jane will be in conversation with author and Honno editor Rebecca F. John.

Winter, 1904, and feisty twenty-one-year-old Ellen has been summoned back from her new life in New Jersey to the family farm on windswept Gower, in a last bid to prevent the impending death of her alcoholic father. On her return, she finds the family in disarray. Tasked with putting her family’s lives in order Ellen finds herself battling one impossible decision after another.

Advent is the story of a generation of young women who finally began to take hold of the reins of their own lives and embraced their own desires and ambitions against the odds.
