Jack Moyse: A Sorry State
The welfare state is failing those dependent on it. Decades of change, branded as renewal, have delivered further inequality and hardship. Simultaneously, those forced to contend with the broken system are vilified, tarnished as scroungers. A Sorry State pushes back against unfounded allegations, centring the endurance of those reliant on state support for survival.
Produced in collaboration with individuals with lived experience of disability, this work explores populist rhetorics through photography, installation, sculpture, and performance, examining their potential as new lateral ideas for socially progressive systems.
This project brings together testimonials of those who’ve experienced welfare in Wales today, listening, learning and translating their experiences into artwork. Throughout the exhibition, Ffotogallery will be introducing and re-working accessibility materials to make Ffotogallery a more welcoming and inclusive place. During this time feedback is essential. We invite you to share your experiences with these new materials or suggest other ways in which your visit can be made more accessible.
