New Book Launch by Abergavenny Poet
Poetry Upstairs, Hen & Chicks Pub, Abergavenny
Tuesday 22 October 8pm

Welsh Bard Frank Olding of Abergavenny will be joined by two leading poets in Wales for the launch of his latest book at Poetry Upstairs in the historic Hen and Chicks pub, Abergavenny on Tuesday 22 October, 8pm.
Frank Olding’s new collection Eilun, published by Gwasg y Bwthyn, is a collection rooted deep in the magical and suggestive relationships between history and mythology. It is described as “a living relevant relationship with parallel worlds (which) gives energy to the vision”.

He writes in Welsh, reads his work in both English and Welsh and has published another collection Mynydd Du as well as Cycles a more recent pamphlet of English translations of a selection of his poems.

He has also written several books on the archeology and history of the area and is a former Curator of Abergavenny Museum and Heritage Officer at Blaenau Gwent Council.

Frank was a poet in residence at the Art Exhibition of the National Eisteddfod in Ebbw Vale in 2010 and is a member of the Gorsedd of Bards.

He will be joined by multi-genre novelist and poet Katherine Stansfield and local farmer and poet John Jones.

Katherine Stansfield grew up on Bodmin Moor in Cornwall and now lives in Cardiff. Her poetry is published by Seren – Playing House, All That Was Wood and We Could Be Anywhere by Now.

She teaches at the Open University and Cardiff University and is a mentor for Literature Wales, a Writing Fellow at the University of South Wales and is the Royal Literary Fund fellow at Cardiff University.

John Jones farms on the outskirts of Abergavenny and his publications include Tug, Blind Cwm and Lucifer’s Cradle.

He quotes Mark Twain: “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why”.

To which he responds: “I can’t remember the day I was born and I’ve yet to answer for it by saying why”. An evening not to be missed.

The host and MC is Paul Worthington and the event is supported by Literature Wales.
Hen & Chicks is in Flannel Street, Abergavenny NP7 5EG.
