Jose H Cifuentes was an educational psychologist with the Swansea Education Department for many years. Before that he was forced to leave his home country Chile while a young man in his 20s.

In Chile he was moved by his Christian faith to go and live in a shantytown while still a university student during the 1970s.

Jose’s talk will cover the Chilean Allende’s government, its motivation and achievements as well as Pinochet’s brutal military dictatorship, which overthrew Allende’s government. This talk will also cover the topic of refugees and human rights more generally.

Jose has produced two books on his experiences in Chile and Swansea, the proceeds of which go towards helping asylum seekers in Swansea, with whom he does a great deal of work. Jose has lived in Killay, since 1977.
