Biography

Katherine Stansfield is a multi-genre novelist and poet who grew up in Cornwall and now lives in Cardiff. Her Cornish Mysteries crime series is set in the 1840s and features unorthodox detective duo Anna Drake and Shilly Williams. The pair investigate crimes based on real events in Cornish history and involve a good dash of local folklore. Think ‘Sherlock Holmes meets the X Files meets Daphne du Maurier’. Books in the series: Falling Creatures, The Magpie Tree, The Mermaid’s Call.

Katherine is also one half of the writing partnership D. K. Fields, with her partner David Towsey. Their fantasy crime trilogy, The Tales of Fenest, is out now: Widow’s Welcome (Book 1), The Stitcher and the Mute (Book 2), Farewell to the Liar (Book 3).

As a poet, Katherine’s debut collection, Playing House, a pamphlet, All That Was Wood, and her second full-length collection, We Could Be Anywhere By Now, are all published by Seren. Her most recent collection was supported by a bursary from Literature Wales.

She has an MA and PhD in Creative Writing and has taught the craft for many years and for many different organisations, working with writers just getting started and those who have novels under their belts. Katherine is an Associate Lecturer with the OU’s MA in Creative Writing, as well as a Writing Fellow at the University of South Wales, and a mentor for Literature Wales. She teaches in the Department for Continuing and Professional Education at Cardiff University and has also been a Royal Literary Fund Fellow.
