In painful or challenging times in their lives many people look to writing for solace and comfort. We often turn to the writings of others at such times, but might we also turn to our own writing for a measure of peace? Can writing enable healing in the wake of grief, loss or tragedy? As Mary Oliver said, “Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination”.

In this relaxed and supportive weekend of workshops, readings, and discussions we will explore the redress afforded by the craft of creative writing when we are in need of words that are “strong enough to help” (Giorgos Seferis). This course is suitable for writers of all genres, including poetry, prose, and non-fiction. And is, perhaps, especially suitable for COVID-19 or post-COVID-19 times.
