Steve Martin specialises in the fields of Black British history and literature and works with museums, archives and the education sector to bring diverse histories to wider audiences. He has published five books of historical fiction and non-fiction for adult and teenage readers. Jupiter Williams (2007) was reviewed by The Times as “convincing and informative, working as much as a piece of social history as fiction…”.   Steve Martin’s talk to this Club on “Black Writing in the 1600-1900 period” was necessarily delivered by zoom and now we welcome the chance to introduce him in person. He has delivered workshops and projects around the world and in the UK has worked with the Imperial War Museum, National Maritime Museum, Black Cultural Archives, National Portrait Gallery, Museum of Childhood, V&A, Tate Britain, and the RAF Museum. He has been researching the Newport Riots of 1919…. but that’s another story…..
