The Girl Who Wouldn’t Give Up is a creative Cardiff-wide project celebrating the power of individuals and communities to create incredible change. It’s based around an ancient Welsh legend, the story of a water monster called the Afanc, retold as a story of community action in the face of environmental disaster. You can watch a short film of the story, featuring many Cardiff communities, download the full written story in Welsh and English, and find out more about the project at monsterinthelake.co.uk

Groups and communities across Cardiff are invited to share the story and create something in response – an event, an artwork, a performance, anything at all! During May 20th – 27th we will host a celebration week where everyone can share what they’ve made. Our aim is to fill the streets of Cardiff with creations inspired by the story’s themes of hope, courage, and the power of taking action.

In the run up to May we’ll be hosting many free creative events including creative writing sessions for adults and young people at Insole Court in April – this will lead to a city-wide writing competition.
