RSPB Newport Wetlands has teamed up with poet and photographer Adam Cairns to run a year long programme of poetry workshops held on the reserve.

The workshops follow the changes the seasons bring to this beautiful landscape, exploring how nature adjusts as the year progresses.

Each workshop follows the same format: a short guided walk to get your creative juices flowing, followed by a workshop designed to help you produce a first draft of a poem you can take away. Each workshop will provide a perspective on one or more poetic techniques followed by an exercise that will lead you through the process of constructing your own unique poem. More details on each individual workshop and what will be covered can be available upon request.

By taking part in these workshops throughout the year you will become familiar with techniques such as the use of line-break in poetry, how poets work with the white space on the page, rhyme, meter, form and many other techniques.

You can sign up for a single workshop, for a season or for the whole year programme. There are 2 workshops in the winter season and 3 workshops in spring, summer, and autumn workshops. A discounted rate is applied for the purchase of a season and whole year ticket. By booking a season ticket or full year programme you will receive a gift from the RSPB team at Newport Wetlands. Please see each ticket for what is included in your purchase.

An anthology of work produced by poets who have attended the workshops will be published at the end of the year. Poets willing to see their poems in print will have the chance to have their work collected into a special anthology commemorating the poetry created over the year.

Subject to sufficient interest, a special reading of work contained in the anthology will be organised.
