This course will use popular and lesser known myths and folktales as a starting point to influence new works of poetry and prose. We will take the elements that form these tales and use them as building blocks to create our own epic work: strong characters, dubious morals, quests, metaphors and most importantly: place. Using places that are close to our hearts, environments that inspire, and locations in our memories, we will consider how to use them as anchors for our stories. We will consider language, and how to use it wisely to create magical poems and stories.

Catherine and Marcus write award-winning fantasy and fiction rooted in landscape and myth and will lead discussions and workshops as well as working individually with you on your own images, ideas and words.
