A monthly writing group which meets at The Gate every fourth Tuesday of the month (7.45-9.30 pm) to write about art. Newcomers are always welcome!

Ekphrasis is a Greek word meaning ‘description’. In its most basic form, it is a description of a work of art, but there are many varieties of this. The simplest, and most open definition is this: a piece of writing written in response to a visual work of art.

Each month we complete a short writing exercise and discuss a published example of ekphrastic poetry. We also take inspiration from the art on display in The Gate, and have a go at writing something in response. We welcome poets and prose writers and complete beginners!

For November’s session we’ll be looking at images and writing on the theme of ‘texture’.

It’s a free workshop with a suggested donation of £3 which goes towards room hire costs.
