The Brecknock Society

The Brecknock Society and Museum sponsors The Roland Mathias Prize, which was established in honour of the poet and author Roland Mathias who played a major part in establishing Welsh writing in English as a distinctive literary genre. He died in 2007.

The Roland Mathias Prize first became part of the Wales Book of the Year Award in 2012. The renowned prize which used to be awarded bi-annually for Welsh-writing in English in the fields of poetry, short stories, literary criticism and Welsh history will be recognised as the English-language Poetry Award within the Wales Book of the Year Award.

Cwmni Da has produced videos of the reading of Wales Book of the Year shortlisted titles, and will be producing a programme on the event for S4C, which will be broadcast at 10.30 pm on 26 June, the evening of the Wales Book of the Year Award Ceremony.
