The Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting – 5 June

The Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting is open for entries until June 5th 2019 at 6pm. The prize is a partnership between the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester and property company Bruntwood. The Prize is an opportunity for writers of any background and experience to enter unperformed plays to be judged by a panel of industry experts for a chance to win part of a prize fund totalling £40,000.

The Guardian + 4th Estate BAME Short Story Prize – 7 June

Short Story (up to 6,000 words) competition open to black, Asian and minority ethnic writers living in the UK or Ireland who are 18 and above. , whatever it may be. The winner will receive £1,000, a one-day publishing workshop at 4th Estate and publication of their story on the Guardian website.

Bread and Roses Poetry Award 2019, Sponsored by Unite – 14 June

Five prizes of £100, and an anthology of the poems of around a further 20 entrants will be published later in the year. Also offering a mentoring and support package for unpublished writers. Up to three will be linked to an experienced, published poet, and they will be helped to produce their first published collection.

Queen Mary Wasafiri New Writing Prize 2019 – 28 Jun

The recently rebranded Queen Mary Wasafiri New Writing Prize rewards authors from around the world in three categories: Poetry, Fiction and Life Writing. The winners in each category will receive funding and publication in Wasafiri Magazine.

Society of Authors Management Committee – 30 Jun

Society of Authors members are warmly invited to stand, or to propose fellow members to stand, for election to the Management Committee. If you are enthusiastic, imaginative and practical you are invited to stand, whatever your background or specialism. Society of Authors particularly encourage nominations from members with skills/experience currently underrepresented on the Committee.

Berlin Writing Prize 2019 – 30 Jun

Entries of fiction and non-fiction of up to 3,000 words on the theme of “The Circus” are invited from published and unpublished writers across the world. The winner will receive a one-month residency at Berlin’s Circus Hotel and a four-day pass to The British Council Germany’s Literary Seminar in 2020.

Green Stories Stage Play Competition 2019 – 30 Jun

Green Stories are looking for stage plays that in some way touch upon building a sustainable society. £750 in prizes plus production opportunities.

Gwyl Lyfrau PenFro Book Festival – 1 July

Three writing competitions: poetry competition, a short story competition and a short Radio Drama competition. Prizes include publication in anthology by Parthian, and the top three Radio Dramas will be edited, performed at the festival and then recorded, edited with music and FX and put up on the PENfro website. In addition winners will receive a CD of the final piece.
