Breaking New Ground

Published Mon 1 Jul 2019 - By Literature Wales
Celebrating the launch of the Breaking New Ground catalogue, four well-known children’s writers of colour share their life experiences.

Literature Wales is delighted to announce a new partnership with Speaking Volumes, Booktrust and Pop Up Projects to host the final Breaking New Ground UK Tour event alongside g39.

Breaking New Ground, launched in March 2019, seeks to promote diversity in the creators of stories for children. Breaking New Ground is an invaluable new resource which champions and celebrates over 100 British children’s writers and illustrators of colour. Through this beautifully designed catalogue, anyone who buys, borrows, publishes or programmes books and authors for children can explore and access the enormous diversity of literary talent active in the UK today.

Teachers, librarians and parents all know how important it is for young readers to access great books that inspire and enthral. But children’s books also need to reflect the diversity of our world and our nation, our communities and families.

Speakers include Atinuke, creator of Anna Hibiscus; Jamila Gavin, author of Coram BoyPooja Puri, author of The Jungle; and Ken Wilson-Max, author and illustrator of Astro Girl.

This event is part of a national touring showcase with national partners Speaking Volumes, Pop Up Projects and BookTrust.

The Cardiff event is brought to you in partnership by Literature Wales and g39.
