An evening of short fiction with Thomas Morris, including a short Q&A, will allow Bangor area audiences to meet and hear one of the most important Welsh voices of a generation. Thomas Morris won the People’s Choice, English Novel and Overall English Book categories at the Welsh Book of the Year 2016 for his collection, We Don’t Know What We’re Doing (Faber & Faber).

Events that celebrate short fiction are few and far between in North Wales. Thomas Morris, as a champion of the short story, will be a very inspiring addition to a new programme of public literary events in Bangor. We hope that events such as these will stimulate local people to develop and expand their interest in reading, and reading short stories in particular since the form is particularly suited to group discussion, and to new readers. The writing community in North Wales will also be particularly interested in this event, and will gain from it considerably. So often writers feel that Wales and Welsh life as a subject is not interesting enough for new cutting-edge writing, and Thomas Morris’ work really confounds that view. Despite his success in Wales Book of the Year, there have been limited chances for North Wales audiences to hear Thomas Morris’ work. This will be an entertaining, interesting and stimulating event which will foster reading, cultural discussion and creative endeavour locally whilst hopefully expanding the reading base of one of our most exciting writers.

A warm welcome to all.

Organised by Bangor University (English Literature and Creative Writing deparment).

Supported by Literature Wales.
