Services for Writers
Literature Wales runs two services which can assist writer development: Writers’ Bursaries, and the Mentoring Scheme.
Literature Wales can offer support to both new and established writers through its Writers’ Bursaries scheme. Bursaries are awarded for literary excellence in a competitive scheme, and are awarded to writers creating new work in the following genres: fiction (novels and short stories), graphic novels, poetry, creative non-fiction (including literary criticism, biography, autobiography), children’s literature and young adult fiction. There is an annual deadline for applications for Writers’ Bursaries.
The Literature Wales Mentoring Scheme offers support and practical advice to new and emerging writers at the start of their writing career. This scheme offers support and practical advice to develop a specific work in progress to a publishable standard. The 2019 Mentoring Scheme has been extended and began with a bespoke week-long residential course at Tŷ Newydd Writing Centre in February 2019, followed by individual one-to-one sessions with a mentor. There is an annual closing date for applications for the Mentoring Scheme.
Literature Wales Writers’ Bursaries and the Mentoring Scheme are supported by The National Lottery through the Arts Council of Wales.
