Services for Writers

Literature Wales aims to develop and support writers at every stage of their writing journey.

Literature Wales runs many schemes which can assist writer development, including: Writers’ Bursaries, the Mentoring Scheme and the Professional Development Programme for Writers of Colour.

Literature Wales’ Writers’ Bursaries and Mentoring Scheme are not currently open for applications.

Literature Wales Writers’ Bursaries and the Mentoring Scheme are funded by the National Lottery through the Arts Council of Wales. In 2020, Literature Wales was pleased to contribute 50% of our earmarked Bursaries and Mentoring National Lottery funding for 2020-2021 to the Arts Council of Wales Arts Resilience Fund in response to the COVID-19 crisis. We were one of many organisations who contributed to this broader package of support, which includes the Urgent Response Fund for Individuals for those freelance creative individuals – including writers – most in need of financial assistance due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Further information about ACW funding can be found here:

In 2020-2021, in line with our Strategic Plan 2019-22, we used this new opportunity to redefine and refocus our support and development opportunities for writers, ensuring that the right support at the right time can contribute towards the richness and diversity of our contemporary literary culture. In autumn 2020, Literature Wales launched a new Professional Writer Development Programme for Writers of Colour for 2021. Further information about the programme will be announced soon.

When can I next apply for a Writer Development opportunity?
