CARTER, HAROLD
Emeritus Professor Harold Carter was born in Neath. He has been the Gregynog Professor of Human Geography at Aberystwyth University, and Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Dean of the Faculty of Welsh Medium Studies and Vice Principal.
His central research area is urban geography, in which he is extensively published. Harold has been Visiting Professor and Visiting Scholar at universities in the USA, Australia and South Africa, and in 1987-88 was President of the Institute of British Geographers.
His other research interest is the cultural geography of Wales, in which he has published through both the mediums of English and Welsh. He edited the National Atlas of Wales and has published books on Welsh language data. Harold was made an Honorary member of the Gorsedd Beirdd Ynys Prydain at the Llanrwst National Eisteddfod in 1990. He has recently published a book on the survival of Welsh identity with the Institute of Welsh Affairs.
