Mal PopeMal was born in Brynhyfryd, Swansea in 1960. He is a composer, singer, songwriter and musician who was signed to Elton John's Rocket Records. Mal studied at Cambridge University whilst recording singles, and returned to Wales to work at BBC Radio Wales as a researcher. He rapidly became a music producer, and was then re-signed by another record label, spending the next five years touring, producing, singing, broadcasting and songwriting for the likes of Cliff Richard and The Hollies.

Mal went on to present Radio 4 and HTV series on Black gospel music, as well as a music chat show for HTV which won several Welsh BAFTAs. He has also contributed substantially to music theatre, particularly focusing on themes of Welsh national identity. Mal lives in Mumbles, and has recently written an autobiography.
