Bel was born in South Wales and is a graduate of Aberystwyth and London Universities. After retiring from teaching, she spent a year at Bath Spa University, gaining an M.A. in Creative Writing. She won the National Open Short Story Competition, which led to her prize-winning story being broadcast on BBC Radio 4. Bel has also won prizes in The Bill Naughton Short Story Competition for three further short stories. She has had her fiction and poetry published in numerous anthologies, as well as a travel article in The South Africa Weekend Post.
Her debut novel was published in 2010. It is a romantic comedy set in Wales which deals with serious social issues common throughout the UK: the under-valuing of older women, care of the elderly, sibling conflict and student debt.
