Writer. Dan was born in Cardiff in 1964, he grew up in Roath, went to school at Howardian High School and studied History at UCW, Aberystwyth. He has written extensively for radio and TV, writing and directing his own work for Radio Wales, notably the situation comedy series 'Pub Globo', set in a vanishing Cardiff pub and 'The Fishford Observer', set in a the offices of Pembrokeshire’s last independent local newspaper. As well as writing plays, documentaries and stories for adults, he also writes scripts for children including, S4C’s ‘Y Meees’ and CBBC’s ‘The Story of Tracy Beaker’. His first children’s novel, The Rugby Zombies, will be published in September (Gomer Press 2010).
Dan’s work is often characterised as comic, quirky and full of ideas. He thinks that there is something quite sad about the fact that life, ultimately, is comic – either that or it’s indescribably depressing. Location, geography and character are defining influences on his writing.
As well as writing, Dan facilitates workshops on script and story writing for schools, colleges and adults. He has worked extensively with primary and secondary pupils running scriptwriting workshops designed to develop creativity, oracy, literacy and confidence.
Having spent some time living in Spain, Dan now divides his time between South and West Wales creating work inspired by these locations. He has an MA (Distinction) in Creative Writing and Teaching Practice from Cardiff University (2010).
