ROGERS, JOHN D.
John lives in Nantymoel and was educated at Rhyl Grammar School & St Mary`s College, Crosby. In 1966, he gained an honours degree in English & Spanish at Leeds University, where he was treasurer of the Welsh Society. Before and after university, he spent some years in the Merchant Navy and became a teacher of English and freelance writer. He has published many non-fiction nautical articles and has also won prizes for his photography and poetry.
John was a member of Plaid Cymru at the time of the investiture of Charles Windsor as Prince of Wales and founded the West Riding branch of Plaid Cymru. His experiences inspired him to write his first novel, intended for young adults, about the political divisions and deep resentments in 1960s Wales. Although he is now retired, John still teaches part-time and is an assistant examiner with the WJEC for upper tier GCSE English literature. He is a Member of The Welsh Academy.
