MANNING, JOHN
John Manning is based at the University of Wales, Lampeter. He has written on British literature from the fifteenth to the nineteenth century but specialises in sixteenth and seventeenth century literature; literary relations between the British Isles and the Continent; theories of emblems, symbols and images; the relationship between words and images; and the problems of editing emblematic texts and manuscripts. John is also interested in the reception of Shakespearean texts, principally Hamlet. He has published in a number of essay anthologies and journals including Journal of the Warburg and Courtauld Institutes, Notes and Queries, Renaissance Studies and Emblematica. John is also series editor of The Hamlet Collection, published by AMS Press, is on the Editorial Board of Early Modern Literary Studies, and is a general editor of a new series published by Brepols, Imago figurata.Reviews:
