Julie McGowan was born and raised in Blaenavon until the age of 12, and now lives in Usk. Her first novel, The Mountains Between (Sunpenny Publishing, 2007), is based in Blaenavon and Abergavenny and was published in November 2007, becoming an instant best seller in all the stores that stocked it. Julie is an experienced writer of short stories, newspaper and magazine features, pantomimes, plays, sketches and songs. Alongside her daughter, she also runs both a successful children’s drama workshop in Usk, and ’Is It Theatre Company Ltd’. They concentrate on touring schools in South Wales with productions which have a health or social message. Julie’s second book - Just One More Summer (Sunpenny Publishing, 2008) - was published in April 2008, and both of these books were represented at the 2008 London Book Fair. She has another two titles forthcoming from Sunpenny Publishing.
