Dafydd completed a BA Honours English (London) and an M.A.(Wales), in which he compared poets in Welsh and English. He was an English teacher for four years at Shooter’s Hill Boys Grammar School in London before becoming Head of English during his five years at Ysgol y Berwyn, Bala. He was subsequently Head of English at Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera for a further thirty years. Dafydd has also been employed as a WJEC English Language and Literature examiner and is a former Mayor of Cwmaman.
During his time at Ystalyfera, Dafydd prepared debating teams which represented Wales in the CEWC, Observer Mace and the English Speaking Union competitions. He was ESU Organiser for Wales for two years after his retirement, during which time he also organised an ESU National Poetry Competition for the schools of Wales.
Dafydd published one novel in 1991 and had another published in 2008. Entitled The M4 Cats (Y Lolfa, 2008), it is aimed at 10-12 year old children. He has had personal success in Welsh-language Poetry and Prose at the National Eisteddfod, as well as poetry published in English. Dafydd has written plays which have been successful in the Act Swansea competitions at the Dylan Thomas Centre. He also enjoys reading his poetry, and won the 2009 John Tripp Award for Spoken Poetry.
