Awen was born in Carmarthen. She attended Ysgol y Dderwen and The Queen Elizabeth Grammar School for Girls where one of her early influences was Beti Hughes who taught her Welsh. She is a graduate of Swansea University where she gained a BSc Psychology ( Hons.). She has retained an interest in psychology and recently became a Licensed Practitioner of Neuro Linguistic Programming. Whilst at Swansea, she was involved with developing the Welsh version of Linkword with Dr. Michael Gruneberg. She met her husband; Tony, at Swansea University. They now have two daughters, Sara Ellen Angharad and Rhiannon Lisa Mai.
Awen has written for pleasure for many years. She has now published her first children’s book, Sid the Sock Eating Monster (AuthorHouse, 2007). The book answers the question of what happens to missing socks in washing machines. As a parent and school governor, she is passionate about getting children interested in reading at an early age hence choosing to write for the 4-7 age group. As a fluent Welsh speaker, she plans to publish a Welsh version of the book as soon as possible.
Awen is an Associate member of Literature Wales, SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators) and New Writers UK.
