PRITCHARD, NIA

Nia Pritchard lives with her husband and three children in Penmaenmawr. She is a fluent Welsh speaker. Nia herself is not a hairdresser, although that was her original ambition - she has worked as a nurse for twenty years and it was the great characters she met and many interesting stories she heard during this period that prompted her to write More Than Just a Hairdresser (Honno). The novel was set in Liverpool after Nia spent a few days in the city, where she has family, and was fascinated by the people she met.

More Than Just a Hairdresser started life on the internet, where Nia epublished it. It was picked up and made into an audiobook which never actually made it to the shops due to the company ceasing trading. It was then spotted by Honno who turned it into a full length novel incorporating the original story plus the sequel, as well as lots of new material. The London television production company Clerkenwell Films has recently bought the television rights. Nia is currently penning a sequel and is waiting to hear about a ‘character-based’ sitcom she has submitted to BBC Wales. Nia is a Member of Academi.
