THOMPSON, TANNI GREY
Tanni, now a Dame, was born in Cardiff in 1969. She has been in a wheelchair since the age of seven due to spina bifida, and has became one of the world’s most admired sportswomen. Tanni made her first debut for Wales at the Junior National Championships aged just fifteen and has won a total of 11 Paralympic gold medals. Tanni has also gained world records in the 100m and 400m races. She has also won six London Marathon titles. Tanni gave birth to her daughter Cerys in 2002 and won the BBC Wales Sports Personality of 2004. She has been awarded an OBA and MBE and published her autobiography in 2001. Having retired, Tanni has now published a second title through Accent Press, entitled Quick Reads: Aim High.
