Karen was born in the South Gower and moved to Shropshire aged five. She studied English, French and German at University in London and began writing children’s stories when she returned to Shropshire, some of which were broadcast by the BBC on ’Playschool’. Karen also wrote a collection of Shropshire folk stories; Witches & Warriors, Legends from the Shropshire Marches (Shropshire Books, 1990). Shropshire’s landscape and its folklore also provided inspiration for historical romances. Karen has worked in libraries since then and began writing Death in the Physic Garden (Beanpole Books, 2005) , which started as a book on astrology and gardening, but soon developed into a crime novel with a garden designer astrologer heroine, Fern Green. After studying for a City & Guilds in garden design, she completely rewrote Physic Garden and ten years after its conception, the work was finally finished in 2004. She intends to follow this
title with a second in the series.
