JOHN, STEPHEN
Born in 1960, Stephen spent the first thirty years of his life wandering like a lost soul, as he strolled bewilderingly amid the late 70s/80s wastelands of Swansea and Neath. 1990 offered a chance of Stephen shedding the shackles of the benefit culture for good. Accepting an opportunity of work in England, Stephen exchanged his Income Support for a minimum wage paying position, inside a warehouse in Nottingham. In 1993 Stephen gave up work to become full-time carer of Marilyn, his partner of over 23 years who sadly passed away in December 2007. Having acquired a lifetime of experience pitting his wits against the UK’s various unemployment and NHS departments, Rhian’s Year and Wimmin Like Rhian are two of the author’s attempts at exposing the failings within the British benefit system, health service, and until now highlighting the plight of an untold army of ignored Welsh minimum wage earners.Selected Publications:
