JONES, MARGARET

Margaret JonesChildren’s author and illustrator Margaret Jones was born in 1918 in Bromley, Kent. However, since 1982 she has lived in the village of Capel Bangor which is five miles east of Aberystwyth. She started illustrating books professionally in 1980 at the age of sixty and was winner of the Tir na n–Og Award in 1989, 1993, 2000 and 2003. Margaret is inspired by ancient legends and has often illustrated works which re-tell traditional stories for children. Her book Nat (Pont, 2004) is set in a mid-Wales village in the nineteenth century and explores the life of a changeling who is rejected by the fairy folk. Margaret recently published an autobiography with Apecs Press and has sadly retired from illustrating due to a deterioration of her eyesight.
