BAGLIETTO, VALERIE–ANNE

Valerie-Anne BagliettoValerie-Anne Baglietto was born in Gibraltar in 1971 and has lived in Britain since the age of three. Although she always wanted to be a novelist, she worked in London as a graphic designer in her early twenties, pursuing her true ambition in her spare time. Her grandfather and great-grandfather were writers, too, so she keeps the tradition in the family and writes under her maiden name. Her husband can trace his ancestry back to Anglesey, and in 2001 they moved from Essex to Flintshire and settled down happily to raise three boisterous children. Valerie-Anne has a great affinity with Wales: her last couple of books, as well as the one she is currently working on, are set in Flintshire. She draws her ideas from her environment and the scenery, and revels in writing the sort of contemporary romantic comedies that are usually confined to a London or Home Counties setting. She is a member of the Romantic Novelists’ Association, and co-ordinates the North Wales Dragon group, which is the local chapter of the RNA. In 2000, she won the RNA New Writer’s Award for her first book, The Wrong Sort of Girl (Coronet Books, 2001).
