Poet for all ages. Kate was born in London, but after graduating from Exeter University (in English and Philosophy), she married a Welshman and has lived in Wales ever since.
Kate has published around 90 poems, mostly to be found in anthologies by national publishers such as Macmillan, Oxford University Press, A&C Black, Scholastic, and Hodder Wayland. Within Wales she has contributed to publications by Gomer Press and the Welsh Joint Education Committee (WJEC). Her poetry has also featured in National Curriculum material, and she is a regular contributor to the poetry pages of Australia’s state publication, The School Magazine. Many of her poems can be found online too, on sites such as The Poetry Zone, All About Animals, Funny Poems and Poem Hunter. Click here for further details.
Kate writes feature articles on related topics for a range of publications, including Writing Magazine, Verbatim, English in Wales, and the publication for primary school teachers, Five to Seven Magazine.
Kate provides poetry workshops for children aged approximately 3 to 15, her aim being to help youngsters discover the fun and fascination of poetry, and their potential as writers. She has visited nearly 1,000 schools and libraries in Wales and beyond since her first workshop in 2001. Click here for more information.
Performance poetry for adults is Kate’s latest venture. Full details, sample poems and feedback can be found on her website, ‘Adult-ish’ page.

The 83 poems in this collection were written with older children in mind, though adults report enjoying them too. The book takes us round the world, from jungles to icebergs to familiar mud and drizzle. And as the environments change, so do the creatures: we meet the massive and the minute, the formidable and the frail, the awe-inspiring and the absurd. We meet questions too: if you were a giraffe, for instance, with a drain-long, crane-strong, swing-along neck, would you just eat leaves? Riddle answers and an Index of Creatures are available at the back.
