South Wales Literature Development Initiative
South Wales Literature
Development Initiative

The project began in 2007, as a three year initiative to create new opportunities to write for everyone and anyone in the authorities of Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Merthyr Tydfil, Monmouthshire, Rhondda Cynon Taff and Torfaen. This energising task concentrates on working with groups and individuals who have traditionally not been part of the mainstream writing world even if they are actively engaged in blogging, texting, writing letters to newspapers, or creating poems in response to national and international celebrations and tragedies. There is a huge wealth of untapped writing talent in the valleys and this project aims to release at least some of it.
In August 2010 the project was extended for a further eighteen months. Neath Port Talbot also joined the project, which now covers eight authorities in the South East Wales Valleys.
In April 2012 the project was extended for a further two years. The number of authorities involved in the project remains eight, having gained Newport and the Vale of Glamorgan, but lost Blaenau Gwent and Monmouthshire.
