The James Thomas Memorial Prize Essay competition was established in recognition of the contribution and vision of Dr James Thomas (1971–2007), co-founder of Cyfrwng and co-editor of the first three issues of the journal. The aim of the annual prize is to encourage post-graduate students and early career scholars to contribute to debates within Welsh media by researching, writing and submitting for publication an article in the journal. Further details can be found at www.cyfrwng.com

The journal is supported by an annual peripatetic conference held annually in April or May during which the Cyfrwng Award is presented to an individual in recognition of an exceptional contribution in the field of promoting mass media in Wales.
