Members & Fellows

Literature is at the heart of Welsh culture. United practitioners can be better heard and involved. Only writers can become Members and Fellows of The Welsh Academy, and this is offered by existing Members, by invitation only.
 

What it Means to be a Member

Membership is awarded to writers as a mark of peer recognition of their contribution to the literatures of Wales. Existing Members can be awarded Fellowship if they have achieved particular prominence, or, over an extended period of time, have made an exceptional contribution to literature. Honorary Membership is awarded to non-writers who have made an exceptional contribution to the literary culture of Wales.

Benefits

Membership can lead to greater involvement at the heart of the literary community of Wales. Members' profiles are increased through contact with others, greater communication on issues of similar interest, and by improved access to knowledge of events, news and opportunities.

Members and Fellows are also entitled to the full range of benefits enjoyed by Associate Members, which includes reduced subscriptions to many of Wales’ top literary magazines, concessionary rate entry to all Literature Wales and Literature Wales schemes funded events, and discounted entry to specific events at many of Wales' premier arts venues.
 

Rates

Member and Fellow rates are currently £20 annually (waged) or £10 (unwaged).

To pay your annual Membership fee of The Welsh Academy, please send a cheque (payable to 'Literature Wales') for the relevant amount to: The Welsh Academy c/o Literature Wales, 4th floor, Cambrian Buildings, Mount Stuart Square, Cardiff, CF10 5FL. Payments can also be made over the phone on 029 2047 2266.
