Calling All Poets! The international Welsh Poetry Competition is now open and accepting entries.

Now in its 11th year the competition is offering the following prizes:

  • 1st Prize – £500
  • 2nd Prize – £250
  • 3rd Prize – £100

The competition will be judged by Kathy Miles.

The contest was set up in 2007 by award-winning Welsh writer Dave Lewis.

Dave Lewis said: “The aim of the contest is to encourage and foster the wealth of creative writing talent that we know exists in Wales. We aim to inspire people to capture life in the present day and to give a voice to a new generation of poets and writers. We want to see pure raw passion burst onto the creative writing scene in Wales.

With entries from over thirty countries the Welsh Poetry Competition is a truly international competition, accessible to all (through the English language). The organisers have also produced two anthologies that feature 200 winning poems from the first ten years of the competition.
